 | That spell-checker I expect, whether you’re a writer or not, you inevitably make use of a spell-checker programme. Many of these happen automatically these days and highlight suspect words even as you type. I run a grammar/spell check through my manuscripts several times in preparation for the final version. Many times the suggestions are helpful. Sometimes they are not. The manuscript read ‘THE MAID OPENED THE BRASS-KNOCKERED DOOR.’ The spell-checker offered the alternative ‘KNICKERED’ (it might look something like this - with a nod to James Gillray) |
